A Comparison of the Concentration of Naturally Occurring Radionuclides in Organic and Conventional Staple Food

Fertilizers based on NPK are reported to have large concentrations of naturally occurring radionuclides. Hence, fertilizers usage can elevate the concentration natural radioisotopes in soil and groundwater leading a higher 40K, 238U 232Th crops grown these fields. In last few years, surge is witnessed organic farming methods due consumer demand. this study, 40K,232Th 226Ra compared between conventionally food crops. total, 25 samples pulses cereals were collected. The NaI(Tl) gamma-ray spectrometer was used for measuring samples. activity 226Ra, almost same both categories. values well within recommended limits but 40K than 400 Bq/kg all radium equivalent conventional below reference value 370 Bq/kg. annual effective dose children other age groups wheat rice lower 2.4 mSv/year. internal hazard index less 1 All categories safe consumption as far radionuclide concerned. An elaborate investigation advised different drinking items broaden horizons.
